Bookstores are shutting down because people are choosing to read their books on e-readers like the Kindle and IPAD. I was talking to my friend Kiaan's dad, Vineet uncle, about this over the Christmas holiday. He said that e-books are better than physical books because you don't have to drive to the bookstore and pollute the environment. He also said it was easier and faster for him to buy his books on his IPAD. But you know what was funny? I noticed that on vacation he was reading a physical book that he bought at the airport.
So what can we do? We can change this situation by not reading all our books on e-readers and instead reading physical books too. I like holding a book when I'm reading. In fact, according to a newspaper article my dad showed me, sales of physical books rose in the US by 2.4%. This is because younger readers prefer physical books. Physical books are easier to share and borrow than lending your friend your IPAD. Bookstores are also putting in cafes so people will read books while they drink their coffee and maybe buy the book if they can't finish in time.
My advice for bookstore lovers is to use your IPAD for playing games and watching movies, but buy and read your books from the bookstores. It's up to us young people to save the bookstores.
